Looks kinda like a tropical storm....
so this is storm #3 of the 2007 Atlantic Hurricane season. Now I know I have been over this with you a few times, but is your ass ready for this shit? Here is a list of some of the shit I got together since I last harped on your asses about slacking on the hurricane ready supply tip. First we got a surplus of distilled bottled water. The rule of thumb is a gallon a day for every person in the house for 3 days. I like to stretch that out to 5 to 7 days. Keep this water in the rotation for freshness, but always keep a spare 6 gallons around. Right now our house has 4 spare gallons of distilled water and 2 cases of bottled 20 oz purified water. I hate to push something from Walmart, but the 24 pack of 20 oz bottles is cheap and easy to store. We got canned food in the pantry. Soups, crackers, peanut butter, granola bars, Mac and cheese, and of course Ramen noodles. We got a single burner camp stove and 2 propane bottles. Weather Band radio and 20 AA batteries. Blankets and pillows in vacum sealed bags. And last but not least, cat food. Got it, now go get it. You are running out of time. Updates on this storm as they come.

Update on the site....
Peace.
The Indianapolis goes down.
On July 30, 1945, after completing a top secret mission to deliver parts of the atom bomb "Little Boy," which would be dropped on Hiroshima, the battle cruiser USS Indianapolis was torpedoed in the South Pacific by a Japanese submarine. An estimated 300 men were killed upon impact; close to 900 sailors were cast into the Pacific Ocean, where they remained, undetected by the navy, for nearly five days. Battered by a savage sea, they struggled to survive, fighting off hypothermia, sharks, physical and mental exhaustion, and, finally, hallucinatory dementia. By the time rescue -- which was purely accidental -- arrived, all but 321 men had lost their lives; 4 more would die in military hospitals shortly thereafter.
Here is a link to the page In Harm's Way which is a fine book about the sinking of the big I. This has always been one of the most compelling stories from a war that I ever heard. These guys that lived through this are incredible. They have walked through the valley of the shadow of death and lived. The worst thing I can think of is dying by being burnt to death. A close second is being eaten by sharks. I guess thats why I think about this story so much. That and the fact that Jaws scared the living crap out of me and the following clip is one of the first speeches I can remember from movies. Enjoy and remember those who made it and those who didn't. God bless all of you.

The Police,.....LIVE!
First, the concert was one night in a great mini vacation for my family. We got to our destination, made sure grandmother and toddler were comfortable and off we went to the show. I wanted to get there early cause I wanted to hear all the acts. See I got this thing for 3 piece rock bands. I think that is the best set. The Police, Green Day, Nirvana, Morphine, Genesis (mid 80's), to many punk bands to list, etc etc. Its just the sound I like. Hey I love me a giant 65 strings orchestra with tricked out wind and percussion that can rock a giant hall too, but there is something about a good 3 person band in a club that kicks ass too. Anyway, I digress. We get there, find parking rather easy and instead of doing the parking lot tour, we decided to get food. My wife and I end up at Harry the K's restaurant in the ball park and start to down VO and 7 before and after dinner. It was good stuff. So we got our buzz on and close to the end of the meal, Sting's son's band FictionPlane came out and played a 5 song set. FictionPlane is a 3 piece band and they were good. He sounds just like his dad. Just like him. You will freak when you hear him. Anyway I recommend you give em a listen. Then came The Fratellis and they were a rocking 3 man Irish band. Great drummer. Good set. Then their shit got ripped off stage and they started setting up Copelands drums. It was on.
So we get to our seats. I put to much time in picking the seats I wanted, but we had a great shot of the stage. We could see the entire stage and I wanted to see Copeland playing his percussion set. Plus we needed some time to relax, we had just stuffed ourselves with turkey wraps and whiskey. I love my wife. She is the best mate to travel with. We were chillin in our seats and watching the crowd roll in. It was a very diverse mix. Lots of 55 to 65 year old dudes and wives, a good amount of 4 member families, some kids but not many, but there were a bunch of guys my age and up. What can I say, this was a concert for people like me. I waited 25 years to see this. I remember saying to my wife it was surreal to finally do something that you said you would do if ever given the chance. It was a feeling that is weird to think about and harder to describe. Either way, I felt like I was at an event that more than one person waited to see. We are high enough to see over the floor crowd and see the limo pull up behind the stage. Not long now.
They don't fuck around. Stuart Copeland comes out and plants on the drum set in the dark. The sun had just set, the stadium was dark and Copeland comes out pounds the giant gong and they pounded out a rockin version of Message In A Bottle. The stage explodes in colors from a kick ass light show. The stage was made of these hundres of whilte vertical bars that could have images played on them. Through out the show images from album covers, the busted numbers from Ghost In The Machine, a giant dinosaur skelton, and live shots of the band flashed on them. Good stuff. So they roll out of Message In A Bottle to Next To You and Andy Summers absolutely gets off on his Fender Strat. Its the kind of blazing guitar solo you find on the 1st disc of the double live album on So Lonely. The song list was what you expected: Syncronicity, King of Pain, Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Roxanne, and Wrapped Around Your Finger. But they did manage to sprinkle over some gems like Walking on the Moon, So Lonely, and Next to You. All in all they played like 2 hours 10 minutes. They were so on time. Stuart Copeland twice got up from his drums to pound on this custom rack of cymbals, bells, chimes and whatnot. He had a good size xylophone and a 4 or 5 piece timpani drum set. Plus the giant gong was there too. He is such a kickass percussionist. It was a great show. I love the fact they were the only 3 musicians on the stage and they rocked it hard.
So that was that. And it was awesome. I waited for 25 years to see those guys and I have to say it was well worth it. If you get the chance, see em. It's worth it. I spent the better part of my life listening to the 84 songs The Police made. They are my band. Don't get me wrong, there are other bands I cherish, I couldn't get along without Talking Heads, The Rolling Stones, Dance Hall Crashers, U2, The Smashing Pumpkins or the Beastie Boys. But if I had to pick a band I listen to all the time, its The Police. Now I can finally scratch them off the list of 5 bands I have to see before I die. There is a great ticket in Philly on Aug 4 & 5th, The Police, The Beastie Boys, and The Smashing Pumpkins are headlining that gig. What a line up. Having seen The Beasties and SP before, we passed on that. But its not to late for YOU!

I am getting bored with the Atlantic weather...
so here is a shot of Tropical Storm Dalila hangin out, chillin at 1004 millibars. Not bad for a tropical storm. It sure is more exciting than the Atlantic. Seen some good thunder boomers here and there, but thats about it. Kind of scary cause its been pretty hot early, which got the shallows warmer, that engine that drives hurricanes is laying in wait. It's all good tho- cause you all got your emergency kits together and your ready for it right? Tell me you have. Please, go to this website and read up. Get some ideas. Be ready.
I haven't gotten a chance to read around the blogosphere here in the local sector yet. Will start to check in this week guys.

The Co-Chair to the McCain election campaign in Florida offers to suck cock in public restroom for $20.
Allen was considered to be acting suspicious by police as he entered and exited the men’s room three times, according to a Titusville Police report. Moments later, he approached the plainclothes officer and offered to perform oral sex for $20, police said.
The article goes on to say this guy was a Republican rep in the house for 7 years. WTF happened to this guy? Seriously. I know that fund raising has been tough for the McCain campaign, but there are other alternatives.
71% Real
You Are 71% Real |
You know who you are, and you're pretty darn comfortable with yourself. Like everyone, you struggle with the parts of yourself that aren't so great... But you're good at accepting who you are and not dwelling on your faults. As a result, you're confident, optimistic, and very real. |
That has to make you wonder whats going on with the other 29%. But like the thing says, I dont dwell on stuff like that. How real are you OG's out there?

Olbermann.
I know there are those out there that think Libby should go free, but thats bull shit. Dude broke the law. A jury of his peers found him guilty. He should pay for that with jail time. I don't even care if he pays the fines, its the time he needs to do. Olbermann puts it the best. If you got 10 minutes, listen to it. Most of you probably already have, but if you haven't, give it a go.
Another experiment in self understanding...
You are Agnostic |
You're not sure if God exists, and you don't care. For you, there's no true way to figure out the divine. You rather focus on what you can control - your own life. And you tend to resent when others "sell" religion to you. |

Humans and how long we been hangin around...
Either way, the article states
Jayne Lawes, the director of excavations, said: "This excavation has proved conclusively that the stone enclosure is man made and similar in construction to others of the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age.
"The actual date of the construction has yet to be proved, though one shard of pottery has been found buried under 60cm of peat on the floor of the enclosure and should help to provide evidence of a date when the site was in use."
John Holbourn, a Bacas member from Wiltshire, said: "The alignment of the stone ring to the midwinter sunrise is of real significance.
See that would be right about 3500 BC at the latest, which is the same time Egyptians started their great building endeavors. Was this a shared technology? Who taught these folks how find the midwinter sunrise? And this was way up in Scotland, a far cry from the deserts of Egypt, were humans learning the same things at the same rate all over the planet without and contact with other groups learning and applying the same theories? Who really knows the story of the human past?
