ME: First off, Mr. Ashcroft, I'd like to apologize for the rudeness of some of my fellow students. It was uncalled for--we can disagree civilly, we don't need that. (round of applause from the audience, and Ashcroft smiles) I have here in my hand two documents. One of them, you know, is the text of the United Nations Convention against Torture, which, point of interest, says nothing about "lasting physical damage"...
ASHCROFT: (interrupting) Do you have the Senate reservations to it?
ME: No, I don't. Do you happen to know what they are?
ASHCROFT: (angrily)I don't have them memorized, no. I don't have time to go around memorizing random legal facts. I just don't want these people in the audience to go away saying, "He was wrong, she had the proof right in her hand!" Because that's not true. It's a lie. If you don't have the reservations, you don't have anything. Now, if you want to bring them another time, we can talk, but...
ME: Actually, Mr. Ashcroft, my question was about this other document. (laughter and applause) This other document is a section from the judgment of the Tokyo War Tribunal. After WWII, the Tokyo Tribunal was basically the Nuremberg Trials for Japan. Many Japanese leaders were put on trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity, including torture. And among the tortures listed was the "water treatment," which we nowadays call waterboarding...
ASHCROFT: (interrupting) This is a speech, not a question. I don't mind, but it's not a question.
ME: It will be, sir, just give me a moment. The judgment describes this water treatment, and I quote, "the victim was bound or otherwise secured in a prone position; and water was forced through his mouth and nostrils into his lungs and stomach." One man, Yukio Asano, was sentenced to fifteen years hard labor by the allies for waterboarding American troops to obtain information. Since Yukio Asano was trying to get information to help defend his country--exactly what you, Mr. Ashcroft, say is acceptible for Americans to do--do you believe that his sentence was unjust?(boisterous applause and shouts of "Good question!")
ASHCROFT: (angrily)Now, listen here. You're comparing apples and oranges, apples and oranges. We don't do anything like what you described.
ME: I'm sorry, I was under the impression that we still use the method of putting a cloth over someone's face and pouring water down their throat...
ASHCROFT: (interrupting, red-faced, shouting) Pouring! Pouring! Did you hear what she said? "Putting a cloth over someone's face and pouring water on them." That's not what you said before! Read that again, what you said before!
ME: Sir, other reports of the time say...
ASHCROFT: (shouting) Read what you said before! (cries of "Answer her fucking question!" from the audience) Read it!
ME: (firmly)Mr. Ashcroft, please answer the question.
ASHCROFT: (shouting) Read it back!
ME: "The victim was bound or otherwise secured in a prone position; and water was forced through his mouth and nostrils into his lungs and stomach."
ASHCROFT: (shouting) You hear that? You hear it? "Forced!" If you can't tell the difference between forcing and pouring...does this college have an anatomy class? If you can't tell the difference between forcing and pouring...
ME: (firmly and loudly) Mr. Ashcroft, do you believe that Yukio Asano's sentence was unjust? Answer the question. (pause)
ASHCROFT: (more restrained) It's not a fair question; there's no comparison. Next question! (loud chorus of boos from the audience)

First, the cell phone is dead. No one who uses a cell phone rarely uses it as a phone. They text, pic, email, game, or maybe just maybe place a call on it. Hell I don't even have a cell phone.
I got a pocket pc. The damn thing is a computer first. For email, can't beat it. Text? Please. Pretty damn inconvenient to make a call on that device. But thats the way that these devices are going. They are not really phones anymore. They are about to evolve into hand held multi media devices. Like the tricorder from Star Trek. So check out this concept phone. Its coming, so get ready for it.
In the other showcase, Dominican-born Fernando Guerrero scored a fourth round TKO over Valentino Jalomo to move his undefeated record to 5-0 with five knockouts.
The powerful Guerrero showed immediately that he was both stronger and better skilled than Jalomo (2-2-1). Guerrero landed straight, compact counters at will against Jalomo, scoring two standing-eight counts in the first round.
In the second and third, Guerrero continued to land an alarming number of clean punches to Jalomo's head, including several straight lefts that tested the elasticity of Jalomo's neck. Eventually, the question was whether Jalomo's chin was better than his record indicated, or if Guerrero's power was less intimidating than his stats led on.
Finally, in the fourth round, a volley of clean, unanswered power shots by Guerrero prompted another standing-eight, and a follow-up flurry ended matters at 1:18 of the fourth round. The exciting performance by Fernando Guerrero won the hearts of the fans in attendance, and likely gave the fans at home the impression that he is someone on which they should keep a careful eye.

Ok, this has become my Oriole image of the year. When you see this, expect some O's ramble. So thats where I am with that. Dude the O's are 5-1 and on top of the AL East and have the best record in the AL. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Baseball world. No one would have put money on that 2 weeks ago. Yeah it will not last, but so far I love watching these guys play. They have no quit in them. They have come back to win 3 games I can think of and have won 2 one run games so far. They sucked at one run games last year. Congrats for getting off on a good start Mr. Trembly. Master of Education, which he has you know, a MA in Edu. Killa huh? A real teacher teaching. Good stuff huh? I love it cause my Penguins have a home grown coach too. Keepin it in house!
The other place I always get smacked by the inspiration bug is when I am driving. Especially poetry. or inventions. This sucks cause I will pull over and write or sketch that shit out. Not a good thing when your job is delivering pizza. Which brings me to this little gizmo above. How cool is that? This is a concept design by Cario. I don't know if this is a good idea or not. I know I would not be looking at the road. Maybe this could be brought to play when cars can drive themselves. You know that shit is coming. Don't even play like it ain't.
cool is it the Orioles are on top of the AL East? Yeah its only 5 games into the season, but we are in first place right now. And I was watchin that game Sunday. This aint the only time they came back this year. They came back from 3 down twice to win that one Rays game. These birds got some fight in them. Young, scrappy, and don't have shit to lose. I don't care what people think, it is going to be fun to watch these O's grow.
And speaking of tough, Marc-Andre Fleury. This kid is killa good. Hes got a great glove hand and he is fast. That shot he stopped past the halfway point of the 3rd period was clutch. It was like slap, pow , catch. Even in HD that shit was hard to see. I was all up off the couch and pumpin the fists and shit. Then a slight commercial break and I was flippin to the O's. I got to see Aubrey Huff come up in the 8th and smack that triple to drive in 2 and put the O's up by one. I was pretty damn psyched about that. Thats when I thought this was a good time to drink a beer or two. So I head out to the shop and see what I got in the shop frig. A Guinness Stout. Good to go. I run back in and see they got Fahey at bat so I flip back to the Penguins game. I mean they are about to clinch their first division title in like ten years, hell two years ago they were the 2nd worst team in the freakin league. Now we got our 6th division title yo!
Thanks a bunch Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. You guys kick some ass. I grew up watching a Mario, Jagr, and Stevens line put up huge O-fence numbers. I really never thought the Penguins would ever have that kind of punch again. Some teams never seem to capture that kind of talent again. Islanders anyone? Edmonton anyone? Philly anyone? I mean those cats had some serious talent and some great history and you don't see them tearing up the headlines anymore. Its just really satisfying watching these guys go from last to first in two years. He don't forget our coach, Michel Therrien. This guy wins where ever he goes. Always has. I love the fact he was our minor league coach, came up to the show and kicked into another gear. And thats why I want there to be success with my O's. I see Dave Trembly much the same way. He didn't come all the way up through the O's farm system, but he was there. Keepin it in house baby, homegrown pride! Anyway it was a rare great sports night up in my crib. I got to watch the O's come back from 3 down twice and win and watch the Penguins wrap up a division title. Good stuff.
